KEY WEST IS GOING TO LONDON!!!
Producers announced on April 4th that Broadway Composer Jill Santoriello's (Tale of Two Cities) new musical It Happened in Key West will get its World Premiere Production at The Charing Cross Theatre in London, supported by general manager Guy Kitchenn.
The limited engagement will begin July 4TH.
The romantic comedy musical is inspired by shocking true events that rocked the tiny island of Key West in the 1930s. After decades of searching for the dream girl of his boyhood visions, eccentric scientist Carl finally finds Elena, only to lose the young beauty to the fatal disease of tuberculosis. But for Carl, the eternal optimist, death is only the beginning. He steals Elena’s body from the graveyard and takes her home, embarking on the most ambitious fixer upper project in history as he tries to bring his beloved back to life. Funny, shocking and deeply moving, this musical will make you re-examine what you believe about the nature of love, loyalty and commitment (either to a person or an asylum...)
The London production will be directed and choreographed by the Fulton Opera House's (Lancaster, Pennsylvania) multi award-winning artistic director Marc Robin. Jamie Roderick (Bandstand, A Time To Kill) will serve as production designer, with costume design by Lisa Zinni (Rent, School of Rock, Cats) and orchestrations by Robert Felstein (The Fantasticks), and UK casting by Neil Rutherford. Producers include: Jeremiah James, Rashad V. Chambers, Marylou Rothfuss (Dear Evan Hansen, Spring Awakening) and Art Lab LLC.
It Happened in Key West features Book, Music and Lyrics By Jill Santoriello , Book and Additional Lyrics by Jason Huza, Book and Original Concept by Jeremiah James.
Casting will be announced at a later date.
The Charing Cross Theater was recently home to the highly-anticipated revival of Maury Yeston's Titanic which sets sail on a UK Tour later this month: and currently is home to the brand-new production of Harold and Maude starring Linda Marlowe.
